Celebrating 100 Years of Women's Suffrage

“FORWARD THROUGH THE DARKNESS, FORWARD INTO LIGHT”

This expression, a rallying cry of the Suffragist Movement, still resonates today.  Today, on this 100th Anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment giving women the vote, we have plenty of time to think about the progress made and the progress still to come.   Leaving aside the obvious issues we have with racial injustice; Women are still fighting for equality in the business world as these statistics show:

Fewer than 10 of Fortune 500 CEOs are women

Fewer than 22% of Fortune 500 Board Members are women

Only 25% of the US Senate are women

Fewer than 25% of the US House of Representatives are women

Fewer than 20% of Governors are women

Fewer than 25% of Cabinet members are women

Only 30% of University Presidents are women

Women earn, on average, 81 cents on the dollar compared to men

These are trying times for sure, but we Americans are in constant forward motion, oftentimes too slowly but almost always in the direction of fairness.  We all have the responsibility to make America a more just and equitable country.  We can make the significant changes we need by electing forward thinking, progressive, (sane), experienced leaders to help us see our way to a fulfilling the America we believe in and can envision.   Let’s do it!
